Home Lodge

Home Lodge was a farmhouse with outbuildings which our clients purchased with a view to turning it into their bespoke home. They had a strong vision for the project and were very conscious of the original rustic charm of the period property, which they wished to keep and express as a key feature of the overall design.

William Green Architects were introduced to the project for the remodelling, refurbishment and extending of the farmhouse. We were delighted to meet clients with such a vision for their home, and we set to work creating a bespoke home for them from the original house.

Almost no brick was left unturned in this deep remodel and refurbishment, with the overriding brief being to connect the house to the beautiful landscape and ensuring the inherent character was celebrated and enhanced.

WGA designed a bespoke garden room extension that connects the day living with the near and far landscapes. On one side there is an English cottage garden, the other a swim pond and beyond the gable a ha-ha, fields and a long country landscape view.  

The design enables the building to open fully to the outside, really playing on the inside-outside notion. To the extent that the garden wall runs through the extension, dividing the space and creating a more intimate space for morning coffee overlooking the cottage garden, with the remaining space being larger and more open for day living and dining within the kitchen.

Within the house there is a mix of spaces from small cottage scale rooms to volume spaces like the double-height hall with glazed minstrel gallery. Each space is connected visually with both internal and external views, framed by doors and windows.

Throughout the house the expression of natural and reclaimed materials was a client vision, successfully weaved into the fabric of the house, creating a beautiful bespoke home.
