Firefly Barn
Standing as a centre piece within a private hamlet lies Firefly Barn, a quintessential Cotswold Barn.
This beautiful stone barn is close to Burford, on the side of a gentle north facing slope overlooking Shipton-under-Wychwood.
Like many Cotswold stone barns, the building stood almost derelict for many decades until our client decided to fulfil a lifelong ambition and develop it.
William Green Architects developed a concept design scheme for the barn to become a high-end holiday let, catering for the discerning tourist looking for an authentic, immersive Cotswold experience. The designs were developed into a Planning package and successfully guided through planning, ably assisted by Bourne Rural Planning Consultancy.
With careful design interventions William Green Architects were able to create a 6 double bedroom proposal that retained and celebrated the central triple height classic element of the barn. This element is retained to fully express the feeling of volume space that is inherent to barns. The dramatic experience is embellished by expressing the natural stone walls with the stairs and landing designed to bridge the voluminous space.
The accommodation extends to an open plan living, dining space that closely connects to the locally hand-crafted kitchen and boot room. A bar, pool room, and cinema further complete the internal offering. Externally there are carefully designed spaces for an external kitchen/barbecue area along with associated seating, with sweeping views across the Cotswolds where one can pass the time picking out the villages, farms, and stars.
The beautifully built result was carefully carried out by the estate builder and onsite joiner who collaborated to deliver the client’s vision. Designed by William Green Architects and beautifully finished by Lauren Gilberthorpe Interiors. A great collaboration, for hire.
